General Information

The 2012 BASL outdoor league is almost here! If you are an individual, a full team, or even a partial team, we have a place for you.

  • Dates: Saturdays – June 16, 2012  - August 25, 2012
  • Time: Typically 8:30AM – 6:00PM – schedule will be published upon registration’s end
  • Style: 11 v 11 (8 men, 3 women)
  • Location:Bonvegna Field in Canton (across from Du Burns Arena)**
  • Format:
    • 8 game regular season
    • Top teams advance to single elimination Champions Bracket
    • Top scorer wins “Golden Boot” award
  • Fees: Cover jerseys, field rental, ref fees, and field equipment
    • Free Agent:
      • Early Registration: $70 (before May 19th)
      • Late Registration: $75
    • Team: (min 0f 15 players per team)

*Rainouts may be played on Sunday.

**In the event of high volume, we may expand to other facilities, but majority of games will be played in Canton.

Online registration is here for your convenience!  Please follow the appropriate directions and link in this section – we have registration for individuals (“free agents”), teams, and partial teams.

Free Agent Registration

Free Agent registration is pretty simple:

  1. Fill out the free agent registration form on our site.
  2. Make a note in the comments if there is a friend you would like to be put with – we don’t guarantee placement together, but make every attempt to do so.
  3. Submit your payment in full to reserve your spot.
  4. You’ll receive an e-mail a week or two before the season notifying you if you were placed with a team.
Fees include: real jersey, field rental, ref fees, etc.
Register before May 19th: $70
Register after May 19th: $75

Team Registration

Team registration is for full teams that have at least 15 players on their roster.  The process for registration is as follows:

  1. Captains create a team on our new registration site.
  2. Pay the deposit amount to officially reserve a spot.
  3. Fill out the roster(including the captain) on our registration site and submit.
  4. Each player will receive an e-mail and can use the link to register and pay.
  5. All players must be registered by the end of registration.
Fees include field rental, ref fees, jerseys for new players, etc. (minimum 15 players)
Early Registration (before May 19th): $70/new player, $65/returning player
Late Registration: $75/new player, $70/returning player

*Note: You may tweak your roster the first 3 weeks of the season and then it is set.  Only those on the roster will be allowed to play in playoffs.  Any additions to the original roster will be responsible for the $75 fee.  Note that late adds will take a couple of weeks to get jerseys.

Partial Team Registration

If you have a group of folks but not quite a full team, you can register your partial team and request free agent additions.  Here is what to do:

  1. Captains create a team on our new registration site.
  2. Pay the deposit amount to officially reserve a spot.
  3. Fill out the roster(including the captain) on our registration site and submit.
  4. Include in the comments how many free agents you would like to add, including sex.
  5. Each player will receive an e-mail and can use the link to register and pay.
  6. All players must be registered by the end of registration.
  7. Free agents will be assigned after registration.
  8. If we are unable to fill your team, you will be refunded in full.

Fees include field rental, ref fees, jerseys for new players, etc.

Rules of 2012 Coed Baltimore Adult Soccer League

This section below explains the league rules for the 2012 BASL Coed Soccer League.  Teams must understand and abide by these rules.  If there are any questions, please contact the BASL staff via www.baltimoreadultsoccer.com or 410-929-6383.  You may download the rules via our documents section on the right hand side of the page.

  1. League Administration
    1. The league will be administered by the Baltimore Adult Soccer League LLC (BASL)
    2. BASL reserves the right to make changes as deemed necessary for the betterment of the league and its play.
  2. Field and Equipment
    1. The majority of the 2012 Coed Soccer League will be played at Senator Bonvegna Field*.  Bonvegna field is across the street from Du Burns Arena (1301 South Ellwood Avenue, Baltimore, MD‎ 21224).  Additional games may be played in other nearby areas if needed.
  3. Eligibility
    1. Players must be 18 years of age by the start of the season.
    2. All fees must be paid and all players must sign the waiver before a team is allowed to play.
    3. Any substitutes that have not previously played must sign the waiver before he/she plays.  A player that plays without signing the waiver will cause the team to forfeit
  4. Team Contacts
    1. Each team must designate a team captain that will be the single point of contact for communication between the team and BASL.
    2. The team captain is responsible for ensuring that his/her team is aware of and follows all rules and league processes.
  5. Play Format
    1. The regular season will be pool play format with 3 points awarded to a team for each win, 1 point for each tie, and 0 points for each loss.
    2. At the end of the regular season, the top teams will play in a single elimination Champions Bracket to decide the winner.
    3. The size of the league will determine the number of teams that are selected for the Champions Tournament.
    4. In the case of a tie for one of the playoff tournament spots, the following tie breakers will be used in order:
      1. Head to head competition
      2. Goal differential
      3. Goals scored
      4. Coin toss
  6. Playing Rules
    1. The governing rules of FIFA will also govern this league with the exception of those below.
    2. Game Rules
      1. Teams must field 11 players with a minimum of 3 women – a team is welcome to use more than 3 women.
      2. A team will be allowed to play with just 2 women but the team must play down a person.  In other words, a team with only 2 women may only play with 10 players (8 men, 2 women).
      3. A minimum of 9 players must be on the field to start a match.  2 of them must be women.
      4. A team that cannot field at least 2 women and at least 9 players at the start of game is subject to a forfeit.  If the opposing team agrees, a 5 minute grace period can be given, but the 5 minutes will be subtracted from game duration to ensure the match ends on time.
      5. Games will be two 30minute halves with a 5 minute half time.  GAMES WILL START ON TIME!
      6. Free substitutions are allowed throughout the game.  Substitutes may only enter the game when the referee gives permission during a dead ball (throw-in, free kick, etc.)
    3. Scoring
      1. NO female touch is required before scoring.
      2. Female goals are worth the same amount as a male goal.
    4. Ties
      1. Any regular season game that ends in a tie will remain a tie.  Each team will be rewarded 1 point in the standings.
      2. In the event that a Champions Bracket game ends in a tie, the teams will play an additional 15 minutes.  This extra time will be played to conclusion – no golden goal.
      3. In the event that the game is tied after the extended time, the game will be decided by penalty kicks.  Each team will take 5 kicks.  One of the kicks for each team must be taken by a woman.
    5. Slide Tackling
      1. NOT ALLOWED.  DON’T DO IT!
      2. A foul will be called on the first infraction and the player will be warned.  Each subsequent offense by that player that game will result in a yellow card.
      3. Keepers are allowed to use diving techniques to stop goals.
      4. Sliding is allowed if a player is attempting to get to a ball and no other player is within 10 ft.  This will be a judgment call by the official
  7. Officials
    1. 2 officials will be at each game.  Ref fees are already part of the league fees, so there is no need to pay them the day of the game.
    2. The officials are responsible for all calls of the game (including offisdes).  Their ruling is final.
    3. The officials are also responsible for keeping time
  8. Conduct/Sportsmanship
    1. While we encourage competitive play, please remember this not professional soccer!  So lighten up, be a good sport and be courteous to all players and officials.
    2. Yellow and Red Cards
      1. Cards will be given via the judgment of the officials.
      2. Any player receiving a red card will be ejected from the game and suspended from the next.
      3. Any player receiving 3 yellow cards throughout the season (including the Champions Bracket) will be suspended for the following game.
    3. If there is an issue with a player or official, only the TEAM CAPTAIN may approach the official to make him/her aware of the issue.  Harassing other players and officials will not be tolerated.
      1. First offense: Warning
      2. Second offense:  Yellow Card/Red Card – referee decision based on the degree of the transgression.
  9. Uniform
    1. Part of the registration fee covers a one time purchase of jerseys.
    2. These jerseys must be worn on game day as numbers will be used for tracking stats and yellow cards.
    3. The league will work with teams to take color requests, but will not promise to deliver on the requests.
    4. Goalies must wear a color that is different from his/her team and the opposing team.
    5. PLAYERS MUST WEAR SHINGUARDS.  Any player not wearing shinguards will not be allowed to play.
    6. NO jewelry is allowed.  Non dangling earrings can only be worn if tape is placed over them
  10. Alcoholic Beverages
    1. Because we are using a state park, no alcoholic beverages are allowed on the premises
  11. Cancellations/Inclement Weather
    1. In case of inclement weather, BASL will post an update on the league facebook page (www.facebook.com/basl.llc) and on the league voicemail regarding cancellation.  Please visit www.baltimoreadultsoccer.com or call 410-929-6383.
    2. BASL will work to reschedule any cancelled games within 3 business days.  Please note that rescheduled games may not be on the typical day
